np Scheme for Early Effective Monitoring of COVID-19 Cases in Airports
The world is currently witnessing an outbreak caused by the rapid spread and high contagious rate of the novel SARS-CoV2, responsible for the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID19). This paper introduces an optimal np scheme to detect COVID19 cases in airports. An optimization algorithm is developed to find the optimal sample size, while taking into consideration the limited available resources. The proposed algorithm ensures the best overall performance over a range of shifts in the infection rate. A real-life case study is used to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed optimal scheme over its traditional counterpart, utilizing the Average Number of Infections (ANI) as a performance measure. Finally, a comprehensive comparison is conducted using different design specifications, where the optimal np scheme is found to always outperform the traditional np scheme.
