Flood Prediction System using IoT and LoRa Technologies
In recent times, there have been many floods due to heavy rainfall the overflowing of water from rivers and dams was increasing concern in India. The purpose of this project is to investigate the occurrence of rain and to predict the floods in advance using an electronic node (3 ultrasonic sensors and a microcontroller) to collect the water level at regular time intervals in addition to this node, there will be a temperature and humidity sensors to collect values from surrounding nature at a catchment area. All this data is sent to dam control using LoRa (Low-Power-Long-Range) Technology. At the dam control, we have a LoRa receiver used to receive data from catchment areas. The data from catchment areas are assessed and if there is a possibility of floods, water may be released from the dam to compensate for the incoming water, so the effect of floods gets reduced. The dam inlet walls are fitted with three float switches, to indicate the level of water. If it crosses level 2 or 3, the people in the affected areas are notified. An ultrasonic sensor with a cone-shaped case was fixed on the parapet wall it reads the water level at the outtake of the dam, which is used to identify the impact area. All these stats can be viewed on the dashboard. If there is any probability of flood occurrence, then it will be highlighted on the map. We use three different colours to denote the severity level of floods. The App users will receive notifications based on the impact area. This study definitively answers the question regarding the occurrence of rainfall and predicts floods.
