Optical vehicle detector using range finding method
Looks at the optical vehicle detectors used in the Universal Traffic Management System (UTMS). The optical vehicle detector is installed upon the road and detects passing vehicles using near-infrared rays. It also provides two-way communications with an in-vehicle communication unit in optical transmission mode. Toshiba is upgrading the detector sensitivity to passing vehicles by incorporating an optical range-finding method.<>
