Applications of linear systems controller to a cycle-based traffic signal control
A cycle-based intersection traffic signal control is manipulated by utilizing the linear systems controller. A dynamic road traffic model is applied to traffic control at an isolated intersection to determine control sequences. The control of an isolated intersection is formulated as a linear systems control problem on the basis of mathematical models. These models are utilized to develop local traffic signal control strategies under various traffic conditions. The key focus in the paper is in applying efficient optimal control techniques based on linear systems control theory to solve the linear traffic models problem. The main contribution of this research is the development of a methodology for alleviating the recurrent isolated intersection congestion caused by high transportation demand using existing technology.
