Investigation of Low-Cost Residential Sprinkler System
This research program was directed toward one aspect of the Nation's fire problem: the development of low-cost fire suppression technology applicable to residential structures. This research program was organized to identify the technology required to produce a low-cost water-based fire suppression system while providing adequate fire control capability. It was hypothesized that a desirable low-cost system would require a minimum number and size of hardware components with proportionately streamlined installation procedures. Inherent in this approach was a corresponding requirement that the amount of water demanded by the system be minimized, and a significant percentage of the experimental effort was devoted to this. Specific details of the organization, conduct, analysis, and results of the research program were presented in this report.
