Pavement Selection Based on Life-Cycle Cost
The report examines the initial, maintenance, and overlay costs of 36 paving projects built in Mississippi since 1960. These projects consist of four different types of pavements. The original costs are converted by a Future Value Factor to determine their value in terms of 1984 dollars. All the costs are then added together to find the 1984 total life-cycle cost of equivalent highway sections. The pavement type having the lowest total average cost per mile in terms of 1984 dollars is considered to be the most economical choice and will be used as a guide for future projects.
