A Study of the Feasibility of Using Belt Conveyors for Earthmoving in Road Construction
The report describes a feasibility study made to assess the economics and practicability of earthmoving methods envolving vertical-face excavation combined with transportation of material by belt conveyor. A comparison has been made with conventional earthmoving methods using scrapers, face shovels and dump trucks. Combinations of conventional earthmoving methods and belt-conveyor systems have also been studied. The study was based on earthwork volumes and construction periods taken from three motorway contracts. (Author)
