The objective of this work unit is to provide a better understanding of viscoelastic polymer material behavior to permit more efficient use of viscoelastic materials in construction. This is to be accomplished by experimentally investigating the mechanical behavior of polymethyl methacrylate subjected to various load rates, magnitude of load, or magnitude of strain; and, by using the concepts of linear-elastic fracture mechanics to investigate the fracture of viscoelastic materials.
