A 120-in.- (3.05-m-) diameter, 12-gauge, structural plate pipe, embedded in a highway embankment under 188 ft (57 m) of overfill, was carefully observed during the course of fill construction. Excerpts from the field research coordinator's diary, photographs and measurements of diameters and peripheral chords are used to establish overfills at which significant types of distress were observed.
