Study of Microcracking of Hardened Portland-Cement Grouts Induced by Dynamic Loading
The effect on the degree of microcracking of hardened portland cement grout specimens of the application of dynamic loads of various magnitudes was investigated. The test specimens were cast as 3- by 6-in. cylinders and were dynamically loaded with the MIT-WES, rapid-loading, gas-operated impact machine to approximately 0-, 3000-, 5000-, and 6000-psi total load. Resistance wire strain gages were bonded to the specimens, and a load cell was utilized to obtain stress-strain relations. After the specimens had been loaded, samples from them were photographed and enlargements of the photographs were examined to determine the total microcracking produced by each load. (Author)
