The report describes the proposal to construct a multilane freeway through Durham, North Carolina from the existing US 70 - I-85 intersection northwest of Durham to US 70 just east of Durham. The project will be another step toward the completion of the Durham Thoroughfare Plan and will be an asset to efficient traffic flow in an east-west direction in Durham. It will provide a need connector between several major medical, educational, commercial, and economic areas. The unfinished sections of the expressway will require taking approximately 239 homes, 6 businesses and 5 non profit organizations. It will require the total acquisition of Erwin Auditorium and Crest Street Park and a small portion of the Erwin Athletic Field and West Durham Recreation Area. (Author)
