Geotechnical investigation for seismic issues for K-Reactor at Savannah River Site
A geotechnical investigation has been completed at Savannah River Site to characterize the foundation conditions in K-Reactor Area and confirm soil design properties for use in seismic qualification of structures. The scope of the field work included ten soil borings to 200 ft. depth with split-spoon and undisturbed sampling. Additionally, forty-two cone penetrometer tests were performed with seismic downhole measurements. Three cross-hole shear wave velocity tests were also completed to confirm the assumed dynamic properties which had been used in preliminary seismic analysis.
