National Dam Safety Program. Still Lake Dam (Inventory Number N.Y. 1266), Long Island Basin, Westchester County, New York. Phase I Inspection Report
This report provides information and analysis on the physical condition of the dam as of the report date. Information and analysis are based on visual inspection of the dam by the performing organization. Phase I investigation of Still Lake Dam did not indicate conditions which constitute an immediate hazard to human life or property. The project, however, does have inadequacies and deficiencies which, if not remedied, have the potential for developing into hazardous conditions. Using the Corps of Engineers screening criteria for review of spillway adequacy, it has been determined that the spillway is inadequate for all floods in excess of 4 percent of the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF). Overtopping of the dam would significantly increase the hazard to loss of life and property, and therefore, the spillway is adjudged as 'seriously inadequate' and the dam is assessed as unsafe, non-emergency. The classification of 'unsafe' applied to a dam because of a 'seriously inadequate' spillway is not meant to connote the same degree of emergency as would be associated with an 'unsafe' classification applied for a structural deficiency.
