Fatigue Strength and Stiffness of Reinforced Concrete Bridge Decks
The first chapter presents an introduction to the present study and its objectives. Chapter 2 includes a review of the literature on related studies and Chapter 3 describes the testing program and the full- and small-scale model bridge structure. The experimental results on the response of bridge deck models subjected to concentrated static, stationary pulsating, and constant moving wheel-loads are presented in Chapter 4. The analysis and discussion of the static test results and the study of the snap-through instability of a 3-hinge rigid-strut truss model is included in Chapter 5. The discussion of the fatigue test results is presented in Chapter 6. Chapter 7 consists of the conclusions, suggestions for future research and design recommendations for concrete bridge decks. The location of the strain gages, testing sequence, and cracking patterns for the deck models are presented in the Appendix.
