Comprehensive Plan. Interim Report Number One, 1970-1990
Yorktown, Texas is located in the 'Coastal Plains' region of Texas, 36 miles northwest of Victoria. The estimated population of the City is 3070--the Comprehensive Plan anticipates a population of 4580 in the Planning Area by 1990. The City's history is that of an agricultural community which has struggled to grow since its beginning in 1846. The area's climate is a mild one and has little in the way of productive minerals. An adequate labor force for new industry and a very active Industrial Foundation are the City's real assets as well as its beautiful natural setting. The City's land use is typical of small Texas cities except for a larger than normal amount of vacant area within the incorporated limits. Housing and drainage are the most pressing problems in the area. (Author)
