The report makes an overview of housing in St. Lawrence County to determine general housing problems in this non-metropolitan region. Census data from 1970 was reviewed in terms of housing types and trends, vacancy rates, and home ownership as well as overcrowding and substandard housing. Along with mobile homes, publicly subsidized housing has contributed to high housing unit vacancy rate. Rehabilitation has been determined as the best means to address the wasted resource of vacant housing. The rapidly increasing number of seasonal housing units is discussed.
