The incorporation of wirand chopped steel fibre into concretes resulted in a significant improvement in tensile strength values; compressive strengths were also improved. In order to incorporate the fibre into the concrete and retain the placeablity characteristics of the concrete, a high dosage of a concrete workability aid was found necessary. As judged by the test results, wirand could be used for a number of specialist concreting applications, particularly where higher tensile strength is required, or possibly, to meet abrasion requirements. The product can be employed with equal facility in both straight Portland and slag cement concretes.
