National Program for Inspection of Non-Federal Dams. Meetinghouse Pond Dam (MA 01018), Merrimack River Basin, Westminster, Massachusetts. Phase 1 Inspection Report
Meetinghouse Pond Dam comprises two earthen embankments with an included spillway. The major embankment, the dam, is approximately 230 feet long and 15 feet high. The other embankment, the dike, is approximately 170 feet long and approximately 6 feet high. It is located to the north of the dam and includes a masonry spillway with wooden flashboards. The dam is in good to fair condition. Hydraulic analyses indicate that the spillway can safely pass the test flood provided the flashboards are not in place; otherwise the spillway dike will be overtopped. Recommendations for remedial work include the clearing of brush and trees from the dike, dam, spillway and discharge channel; the filling of animal burrows; the providing of additional riprap protection; the re-shaping of the dam crest to limit vehicle traffic; and performing maintenance work on the spillway and gate house. Additional investigations of the spillway dike are recommended to determine if seepage is present at high water levels and to determine and modify as necessary the freeboard.
