Shear Transfer in Large Scale Reinforced Concrete Containment Elements
This report presents first results of an experimental program to investigate shear transfer in a cracked containment vessel without diagonal reinforcement. The test setup was designed and constructed to simulate boundary conditions of a wall element of a pressurized containment subjected to tangential shear stresses. The experimental program included monotonic and reversing load tests on large scale specimens subjected to biaxial tension and shear. The specimens were 5-ft. square and 2-ft. thick with No. 14 and No. 18 reinforcement. Results of three monotonic tests are included in this report. The test variable was the level of biaxial tension. Observed behavior, strength and deformations are discussed.
