Earthquakes and Nuclear Detonations
Subject document is a technical comment on a published paper by Emiliani and others (Science, 165, 1255, 1969), which claimed to have found that 'underground nuclear explosions trigger significant earthquake activity for at least 32 hours afterward and to distances up to at least 860 km from the Nevada Test Site.' The subject paper points out several factors which were overlooked by Emiliani et al., and which negate the correlation found by those authors between underground tests and regional seismicity.
