Observed and Predicted Behaviour of Two Embankments on Clay
For two embankments constructed on deep deposits of clay near Boston, U.S.A., comparisons are made between predicted and measured settlement, rate of settlement, horizontal movement and excess pore pressure dissipation. It is found that despite the apparent one-dimensional geometry of the embankments, a one-dimensional analysis underestimates the settlement, whereas three-dimensional analyses give reasonable agreement between measured and predicted settlement, rate of settlement and excess pore pressure dissipation.
