Crushed Gravel Coarse Aggregate in Asphalt Concrete Pavements
The field performance of a group of New York State asphalt concrete pavements constructed with crushed gravel coarse aggregate was compared to that of a similar group of pavements constructed with crushed stone. Also compared was the performance of gravels from the Adirondack Highlands with gravels from the Southern Tier. Laboratory studies were conducted on cores taken from the crushed gravel pavements to ascertain the similarities between their physical properties and those of selected groups of samples from crushed stone pavements. Surveys were performed on local government pavements in New York and on Pennsylvania state highways constructed with crushed gravel from New York State sources. (Author Modified Abstract)
