One purpose of the South Tampa Heights Historic Preservation Urban Design Study was to protect the character of the existing neighborhood through preserving its present contributing buildings, scale, treescape, enhancing the riverfront and by setting criteria for new construction which is compatible with the character. The document summarizes the project's methodology, conclusion and documents produced. Issues and goals identified in the course of the project have been varied and complex. They have included how to go about turning a blighted neighborhood around, how to achieve greater community access to the waterfront, how to preserve the architectural heritage and most of all how to make the community livable for all of its residents.
