Eldercare Volunteer Corps; West Virginia Commission on Aging
The Eldercare Volunteer Corp Project was designed to identify, recruit, and train volunteers to work with social service organizations to provide limited services to the elderly in three rural West Virginia counties. Funding was provided by the Administration on Aging to the West Virginia Commission on Aging and was subcontracted to the West Virginia University Gerontology Center in October, 1992. Major accomplishments were (1) recruitment of 324 volunteers; (2) development of a training manual used at seven training workshops in the local counties; (3) logging of 1,545 volunteer hours of services to the elderly; (4) infrastructure building by coordinating with existing projects, namely, CRANECE (Church in Rural Aging Network: Education and Collaborative Efforts) and Project Care.
