Proceedings of the USA-Japan Bridge Engineering Workshop (1st) Held at Public Works Research Institute, Tsukuba (Japan) on February 20-22, 1984
A schedule of the workshop and an itinerary of the study tour are presented, along with lists and biographical sketches of both Japanese and American participants. Papers delivered at the workshop are provided, and focus on such topics as: specification and seismic design forces for earthquake-resistant design of highway bridges and substructures of highway bridges in Japan, ductility demand for bridge piers, embankment of sandy layers, seismic-resistant bridge design criteria in California, static and dynamic response of cable stayed bridges, and dynamic field testing of full-scale highway bridges. The need for coordinated research between the U.S. and Japan in the following areas is cited: repair procedures for seismically damaged bridge structures, experimental field testing of bridges, and studies of the effects of soils on the behavior of bridges. Appendices explore the main bridges of the Kan-Etsu Expressway.
