Historic Structure Report Administrative and Architectural Data Sections, Main Fort and Ravelin, Fort Washington, Maryland
Fort Washington Park consists of 341 acres and is located in Prince Georges County, Maryland. This Administrative Data Section concerns the 1815-24 fort, the Endicott period gun batteries and associated structures, and other structures built at Fort Washington during the period 1815 to approximately 1920. Still standing are 25 structures, with 13 sites of no longer extant buildings. The Architectural Data Section of this report covers only the fort and ravelin, powder magazines, latrine and the reverse fire casemate. It does not include in detail the officer's quarters, barracks or the interior of the Main Gate. This section will also address problems of treatment and use as related to alternative actions for each structure. As well as the technical aspect of preservation, major problems are economic, maintenance, safety, and vandalism. The report contains illustrations and drawings.
