The University of Illinois Test Track as a Tool for Evaluating Pavement Performance
The objective of the study was to investigate the correlation between the AASHO Road Test findings and results obtained from tests on the University of Illinois Pavement Test Track, and to evaluate fundamental factors influencing pavement behavior and performance so that correlation or lack of correlation between the tests can be explained. Forty test pavements were tested to failure under 4 and 6 kip axle loads on a single tire. Serviceability trends were recorded along with deflection and other physical responses. A predicting equation was developed relating performance of test sections of those in the test track to those at the AASHO Road Test.
