A Study of the Social, Economic and Environmental Impact of Highway Transportation Facilities on Urban Communities
The study resulted from the actions of a group of citizens in Spokane, Washington, in collaboration with the Washington State Highway Department. The study was done to give highway administrators some procedures and tools for locating and building highways that will not only serve the traffic, but satisfy the needs of the community and the public, with regard to appearance and social needs and amenities. Professional opinions from each discipline identify the desirable features in highway location and provide a means for evaluating one facility to meet all the needs and desires of the people. The book focuses more attention on the impact considerations of appearance, sociometrics, and neighborhood economics in highway design. (BPR abstract)
