The steel sheet of a steel-concrete composite slab acts as a formwork during casting and as reinforcement in the hardened state of the slab. The composite action between the sheet and concrete is based on the shape and embossments of the sheet produced by cold-forming. It is possible to improve the competitiveness of composite slabs by prestressing, with which longer spans of slabs are available. Post-tensioning offers the possiblity to place the tendons so that the vertical components of the tendon force balance the acting loads or part of them. The horizontal component of the tendon force balance the acting loads or part of them. The horizontal component of the tendon force causes uniform compression of the slab.
