Coupled Polymer-Organosilanes for Repair of Concrete Structures
The report addresses the need for research into innovative techniques and materials to repair and rehabilitate the nation's existing concrete roadways, bridges, and buildings. The experimental program assesses the feasibility of an innovative concept for substantially enhancing bonding between concrete surfaces and concrete filler materials by creating superior interfacial chemical bonds with the use of silane coupling agents. The merits of several concrete/organosilane systems are investigated. The application of coupling agents can enhance bonding characteristics (high water resistance and superior shear strength) by as much as 860%, promoting overall improvement in the service life of repaired structures.
