William L. Springer Lake consists of five major components: (1) Springer Dam and Springer Lake (multiple purpose), (2) Friends Creek Dam and Subimpoundment (multiple purpose), (3) downstream Greenbelt corridor, (4) local levee protection for certain agricultural areas in the Greenbelt, and (5) flood protection for communities upstream of the project. The existing Lake Decatur and Dam (D.A. 906 sq. mi.) are involved in the project plan because of changes in the water supply capability, flood control, and the rate of sediment deposits. The project is located within the five east-central Illinois counties of Macon, Piatt, Christian, Sangamon, Menard. Actions consist of continuation of project construction, including project buildings and structures, and land acquisition. Environmental impacts and adverse effects are discussed.
