Precast Concrete Modular Bridge Deck Case Studies
Among the most acute problems in highway construction today is the rehabilitation of deteriorated bridge decks. Deck deterioration has been attributed to poor construction quality control and the use of deicing salts during the winter months. Conventional cast-in-place bridge deck rehabilitation often results in severe disruption of traffic due to extensive forming and curing time. Full-depth precast concrete modular bridge deck panels have recently been given considerable attention as a viable alternative method of deck rehabilitation and replacement. An in-depth review and literature search of past and current practices on the use of full-depth precast concrete modular bridge deck panels was made. Six representative bridges were selected. Through several site visits and interviews, available information on the design, construction, performance, and cost of precast panels were compiled.
