The value of Vermont's nonfuel mineral production in 1989 was nearly $89 million, a $13 million increase over the 1988 value. Leading mineral commodities produced, in descending order of value, were dimension stone, crushed stone, sand and gravel, talc, and asbestos. Nationally, the State ranked third of 10 states that produced talc. It ranked third in quantity in dimension stone output, but first in value. Vermont was one of only two States that produced asbestos; the other was California.
