Valdez to Mile 65, Richardson Highway, Alaska, Project F-071-1(2)
The Richardson Highway is the only existing highway route from the all winter port of Valdez to the Interior of Alaska. The study is concerned with the southerly portion of this highway where it crosses the Chugach Mountains from Mile 6 to Mile 65. Realignment will create a safer roadway for the traveling public by increasing sight distances and eliminating curves. Negative environmental effecs cannot be totally avoided, such as scars made during construction. Effects to the wildlife habitat are almost non-existant as the proposed project is coincident or nearly parallel to the existing roadway.
