The report contains the historical data section on the Hampton Mansion and garden and a brief section on the administrative data. This report traces the history of the estate including its chain of title from 1695 to 1948, the construction of the mansion in 1783-1788 by Captain Charles Ridgely, and the occupancy and the maintenance of the mansion over the last 200 years. The lives of the owners and residents are briefly discussed with special reference to their contributions to the structure's character. The second unit of this report concentrates on the Hampton Garden. The history of the garden dates back to Captain Charles Ridgely with improvements such as irrigation made by Governor Charles Carnan Ridgely.
