Performance Criteria for Tall Buildings
An example is presented of performance criteria for structural attributes of buildings and the relationship between these criteria and limit states in structural design. Recently the Building Research Division of the Institute for Applied Technology, National Bureau of Standards, developed guide criteria for the design and evaluation of innovative housing systems. These criteria are now applied to design, develop, and evaluate and certify industrialized housing systems. Various problems associated with performance evaluation and performance testing are discussed and an example is presented from a structural performance evaluation of a building system that was carried out by the Building Research Division.
