Cracks in Blocks of the Bratsk Hydroelectric Station Dam (Treshchinoobrazovanie V Blokakh Plotiny Bratskoi Ges)
The results of field observations on temperature cracking in the Bratsk Dam and the factors causing it are reported and analysed. Many of the remote-controlled strain gauges embedded into the dam blocks for studying its stress condition were either in or near the cracks. This permitted to determine the moment of cracking, the stress condition prior to this process and the dynamics of crack development. Of particular interest are the data on internal cracks, which cannot be obtained through ordinary visual observations. (Author)
