US 221 From Baldwin to Jefferson, Ashe County, State Project 6.801748, F.A.S. Route 4482, S-1473( ), North Carolina
The project proposes to relocate US 221 beginning at approximately the US 221-NC 194 intersection in Baldwin and ending in the vicinity of the east corporate limits of Jefferson, a distance of approximately 7.7 miles. The future completion of the US 221 project and the improvement along existing US 221 south of West Jefferson will improve accessibility in the area and region. The proposed relocation and improvements together with the use of safer operational design characteristics will contribute to a reduction in noise as well as exhaust emissions. The project will involve the relocation of 38 families, 6 businesses and one non-profit organization. Portions of the project are located within the drainage areas of South Fork of New River and North Fork of New River and the possibility of siltation will exist during construction of the project. No Section 4(f) public land or parks are involved in this project.
