Blockbot: A Robot to Automate Construction of Cement Block Walls
Poor productivity in the construction industry has led researchers to consider the automation of various construction tasks. The cement block wall building process lends itself to automation, and the design of a machine to accomplish this task is discussed in this paper. The machine was designed and a small partial prototype built. Known as the 'Blockbot', it was found to be useful for construction of principally straight surface bonded block walls. The machine has an estimated production cost on the order of 140K and a payback time on the order of 4 years.
