Open Space and Recreation Master Plan for Metropolitan Dade County
The study reviews the current status of open space, recreation and beautification facilities and programs in Dade County, Florida, with particular reference to: environmental factors; resident and tourist demand trends; supply of existing and potential open space and recreation facilities; and potential beautification projects. The study recommends an open space and recreation facilities master plan. Types of open space and recreation areas are classified. General recommendations are made for the development of neighborhood and community parks. Specific sites and development are proposed for metropolitan parks and nature preserves. A four-part beautification program is also recommended: joint public-private program; the enactment of ordinances; urban renewal; and the development of a greenway system. Estimates of costs and alternative methods of implementation are presented. A continuing planning program that can reflect changing needs is proposed. (Author)
