National Dam Inspection Program. Long Ridge Dam (NDI I.D. Number PA-01022, PennDER I.D. Number 52-185), Delaware River Basin, Branch of Hornbecks Creek, Pike County, Pennsylvania. Phase I Inspection Report
Based on a visual inspection, operational history and hydrologic/hydraulic anlaysis, the dam is considered to be in fair condition. The size classification of the facility is small and the hazard classification is considered to be high. In accordance with the recommended guidelines, the Spillway Design Flood (SDF) ranges between the 1/2 PMF (Probable Maximum Flood) and the PMF. Since the facility is classified near the lower bounds of the small category, the SDF is considered to be the 1/2 PMF. Results of the hydrologic and hydraulic analysis indicate the facility is capable of accommodating a 1/2 PMF event. Specifically, the facility will pass and/or store about 65 percent of the PMF prior to embankment overtopping. Consequently, the spillway is considered hydraulically adequate. It is noted that the spillway, as constructed, is considered to be deficient. The evaluation of its hydraulic adequacy is based upon the assumption that the channel adequately protected against erosion such that its service cannot threaten the structural integrity of the embankment.
