Scappoose Drainage District, Oregon. Proposed Improvements, Flood Protection
Scappoose Drainage District is located east of the town of Scappoose in Columbia County, Oregon, along the left bank of Multnomah Channel between Columbia River miles 90.3 and 97.0. The project should increase the flood protection capabilities of the existing protective works. Work will consist principally of about 170,000 cubic yards of canal excavation; 65,000 cubic yards of interior levee embankment from canal excavation; and miscellaneous construction activities associated with pumping stations and drainage structures. Excess material from canal excavation will be disposed of along the left bank of Evans Slough in areas of lower elevation. All disturbed and construction areas will be seeded. Temporary increase in turbidity along Evans Slough and permanent removal of brush and vegetation along the left bank of Evans Slough and a short section along the right bank of Santosh Slough will occur. Minimum impact on fish and wildlife should result from the project.
