Pacific, Missouri. Comprehensive Community Plan
The City of Pacific, Missouri, with an approximate population of 3,500 persons, is located thirty miles west of Saint Louis, on Interstate 44, where Franklin, Jefferson and Saint Louis Counties join. Substantial growth is occurring from expansion of Metropolitan Saint Louis, augmented by recreational development of the adjoining Meramec River and industrial exploitation of the rich Ozark minerals nearby, served by two major railroads. The land use plan proposes to exploit, for residential occupancy, the topographic advantages of lands lying near the new high school at the west end of town, concentrating industry to the south, adjoining the railroad tracks. A survey of business and community opinion, previously published in the 'Background for Planning' report, established goals and objectives upon which priorities for future public improvements were based, including public buildings and open space, transportation and circulation, central business district improvements and standards for community design. Zoning and subdivision regulations are also included in the plan, under separate cover. (Author)
