Fatigue Strength of Overloaded Bridge Components
The principal objective of this study is to investigate the fatigue behavior of a weldment subjected to periodic overloads. The three main aspects of this investigation are (1) the experimental determination of the fatigue strength of a welded detail with periodic overloads added to the constant amplitude stress cycling, (2) the application of fracture mechanics concepts to fatigue life prediction of periodically overloaded specimens, and (3) generalization of the results to other types of detail and determination of safe overloading conditions for steel bridges.
