Using concrete mixture proportions furnished by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), information was developed on the compressive strength, modulus of elasticity, and time-dependent deformation behavior (creep) of concrete similar to that planned for use in the construction of the prestressed containment for TVA's X-14 and X-15 nuclear power plants. Test results indicate that concrete creep decreases with the age at loading and, hence, the sustained modulus of elasticity increases with the age at loading. This is attributed to the reduction in amount of evaporable water by the process of hydration in sealed specimens. (Author)
