This report summarizes current Bureau of Reclamation research and its application to a diverse array of problems in the development of land and water resources, becoming, as Research Report No. 10, a member of the Bureau's Water Resources Technical Publications group. Extensive research is a necessity in the planning, design, construction, and operation of reclamation engineering works to assure safe and economical structures and operations. Because reclamation engineering encompasses a broad range of engineering disciplines and knowledge, supporting research must also be varied in scope. Some 170 research programs in 1966--reported in 19 functional categories from Applied Chemistry, Physics, and Petrography to Weed and Phreatophyte Control--concern, and are related to, conservation of the country' water and land resources.
