Conneaut Harbor, Ohio. 1966 Project Modification
The project concerns further construction at the Conneaut Harbor, Ashtabula County, Ohio. The modification would provide for construction of a small-boat mooring area within the limits of the existing breakwater system. It would provide a public launching ramp and a berthing capacity of approximately 1,300 small boats. It would provide for Federal construction of an inner dike and Federal dredging of entrance and dock front channels to provide access to the sheltered area created by the dike. The project also provides for recreational fishing from the dike and from the existing weak breakwater. The project should have little new impact upon the environment since most of the adjoining area has already been developed for deep-draft-navigation. Fortunately, in this instance, the dredged material is needed to develop parking lots. There are no significant adverse environmental effects. The impact of construction on the aquatic ecosystem would be temporary, largely due to the dredging muddying the waters. Because the work is underwater, there will be no change in the physical appearance of the harbor.
