The aim of this manual is to give project engineers a guideline for the design and maintenance of (reinforced) concrete roads. Various types of pavement are dealt with, such as highways, (provincial) motorways, rural roads, urban roads, estate roads and cycle tracks. A simple and stepwise procedure has been developed, providing a reliable set up of a pavement design in cement concrete. To find the most appropriate pavement design class, basic information is given about the dimensions of a concrete slab and the qualified materials. The detailing of the cement concrete pavement is dealt with, such as joint types, joint patterns and joint spacing and joint filling material. Also attention is paid to when and how dowels/tie-bars should be used where, which dimensions the bars should have and which requirements can be stated. Crucial aspects are given for curved road parts. T- and Y-junctions and connections to adjacent pavement types. Attention is also paid to the design of roundabouts, passing bays, bus lanes, parking areas, petrol stations etcetera.
