Prediction of Performance of AIT (Asian Institute of Technology) Test Embankment
This paper compares the predicted and the measured settlement behavior of a test embankment constructed at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). The predictions were made using available soil data from laboratory tests in conjunction with relatively simple settlement analyses based on elasticity and one-dimensional consolidation theory. The original predictions, made before the test results were revealed, indicated fair agreement for the time-settlement behavior beneath the center of the embankment but less satisfactory agreement for settlements near the edge, and very poor agreement with measured excess pore pressures.
