The report summarizes the most important results in the author's dissertation entitled 'Behavior of Steel Structures Exposed to Fire'. A method is presented for the analysis of the deformation process in steel girders under fire exposure conditions. The model makes it possible for the loadbearing capacity and risk of failure to be estimated more safely, and for the special conditions which may apply to various structures to be taken into consideration. It has been found that a steel girder when exposed to fire will in most cases have an appreciably higher loadbearing capacity than is indicated by a standarized procedure.
